Fields and limits
These are the limits Google states for the main text fields of a store listing.
| Field | Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| App name (title) | 30 characters | One localized name per language. |
| Short description | 80 characters | The first text people see on the app's page. |
| Full description | 4,000 characters | People can expand the short description to read it. |
Write the title for people first
Use the name people will recognize. Google's policies say the title must stay within the limit and that keyword stuffing or irrelevant metadata can lead to enforcement, so a title packed with search terms is a risk, not a shortcut.
Make the short description do one job
With 80 characters, say what the app does and for whom. This is practical advice, not a Google rule: lead with the clearest benefit and avoid repeating the title.
- State the main outcome, not a feature list.
- Write it before the full description so the full text supports it.
- Re-read it on a phone, where it is cut short.
Use the full description to explain, not to repeat keywords
The full description is where you explain what the app does, who it is for and what is included. Keep claims accurate to the app as it ships today. Google's content quality guidelines apply to every field.
- Open with what the app does in plain language.
- Group features by what the person gets, not by what you built.
- Do not claim rankings, awards or user numbers you cannot show.
- Localize the text for each market you launch in instead of machine-translating it blindly.
Screenshots
Screenshots have their own rules, covered in the screenshots guide. They should show real screens of your app. Add a short headline only if it helps a person understand the screen.
Before you submit
- Title is 30 characters or fewer and reads like a name.
- Short description is 80 characters or fewer and says what the app does.
- Full description is accurate and under 4,000 characters.
- Screenshots are real screens and meet the current size rules.
- Every claim in the text is true of the version you are publishing.
