App Store and Google Play screenshots: formats, counts and sizes

3 min read · Reviewed 2026-10-12 · Store limits can change, so confirm in the store console before you submit.

Screenshots are the part of a listing people look at first, and each store has its own technical rules. This guide lists them as each store's help pages state them and points out where those pages are unclear. Always confirm the live numbers in the store console before you export images.

Plan the set, not single images

This part is practical advice, not a store rule. Treat your screenshots as a short sequence that explains the app to someone who has never seen it.

  • Give each screenshot one idea and one short headline.
  • Lead with the screens that show what the app does, not the sign-in screen.
  • Keep text large enough to read on a small phone.
  • Show real screens of the version you are publishing, and re-export them after a redesign.
  • Do not add features, prices or claims that the app does not have. Each store's metadata rules apply to images too.

Before you upload

  • Files are in an accepted format with no transparency or alpha channel.
  • Sizes match the numbers you read in the store console today.
  • Each store has its own set. Do not mix one store's images into the other.
  • Every screen is real and every claim is true.
